3 Ways to Turn Fear into Faith

Fear can easily take over our lives if we don’t transform it into something that can serve us.

When we allow fear to linger, we give our power away to a life that hinders our ability to show up. We act in ways we normally wouldn't, say things that don't support us, or don't speak up for what we deserve.

The only way to overcome paralysis by fear is to move the needle towards faith.

By giving ourselves permission to recognize our fear, we bring it into our awareness instead of hiding things that influence us subconsciously, which is where 80% of our decisions, actions, and reactions come from.

Most importantly, we stop shaming ourselves for having a human experience and move beyond negative self-talk.

What happens after we confront our fears?

We practice turning it into faith.

Here are three ways to begin.

1. Get curious about your fear.

Before you try to change your fear, understand it.

Ask yourself:

  • Why am I afraid?

  • What triggered this fear?

  • Am I responding to my past, my present, or a future that hasn't happened?

You cannot transform what you're unwilling to confront.

Are you actually in danger, or are you imagining the worst possible outcome?

Has something in the present triggered an old wound that still needs healing?

Or are you allowing your mind to live everywhere except where you are today?

Awareness always comes before change.

2. Take one step toward what scares you.

Fear loses some of its power the moment you stop running from it and do something about it.

Taking one small step reminds your nervous system that uncertainty doesn't automatically mean danger.

One of my biggest fears is natural water. Lakes, rivers, oceans. The thought of drowning has always terrified me.

Ironically, I was a competitive diver in high school, diving from platforms into water far deeper than most lakes I swim in today.

So whenever I'm out in nature, I intentionally challenge myself. Sometimes that means jumping in. Sometimes it simply means walking farther into the water than I normally would.

Have I drowned? Not yet.

That doesn't mean bad things never happen, and it certainly doesn't mean ignoring wisdom or putting yourself in unsafe situations. It means refusing to let fear make every decision for you.

Something could happen, yes, and if it does, I don't want you to immediately jump to, "See, this is confirmation why I stay in my comfort zone!"

I want it to be a practice of understanding that not everything is under your control; that's not an excuse not to live.

3. Become the version of yourself who trusts.

Ask yourself how you would live if fear no longer had the final say.

Would you take the trip?

Would you pursue the dream you've been talking yourself out of?

Would you allow yourself to experience a healthy relationship instead of expecting it to fall apart?

Healing isn't just thinking differently. It's choosing differently, particularly actions that align with the person you're becoming.

Every time you respond from trust instead of fear, you're reinforcing a new identity.

Fear doesn't have to disappear before you move forward.

In fact, courage often looks like carrying fear with you while choosing faith.

That's when and how fear slowly loses its grip.

Not because it vanished overnight, but because you stopped allowing it to lead your life.
